Women's Lacrosse Defeated at Randolph College

LYNCHBURG, Va.—Coming off its first victory of the season last Saturday, the visiting Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team fell, 14-5, to Randolph College on a cloudy Thursday evening at Wildcat Stadium in Lynchburg, Va.

The Knights (1-2) played tough to start the game, trailing only 3-1, but the Wildcats (2-1) scored six unanswered goals to increase their advantage to 9-2 at the half.

Southern Virginia came out inspired in the second half, cutting the score to 9-4 but was unable to sustain the run. The Wildcats added five goals before the final whistle, while the Knights added one goal.

Randolph outshot the Knights by a 35-24 ratio and won the ground ball battle, 25-24. The Wildcats also earned nine of 11 draw controls in the first half, but senior Caroline Schroeder battled back in the second half by winning four of eight draws.

Sophomore Zoe Bradshaw and sophomore Rainey Whitworth scored two goals apiece to lead Southern Virginia on the night. Freshman Elizabeth Bonney rounded out the scoring with her first career goal.

The Wildcats Melanie Eisele registered a game-high five goals for Randolph while Taylor Klevenz added four goals. Chelsea Marciniak netted two goals while Erin Campbell, Megan Graham, and Taylor Riccardi added a goal apiece.

Kathryn Lyman (1-2) registered a career-high 11 saves on the night as the goalkeeper for the Knights.

The Knights return to action against Capital Athletic Conference foe Mary Washington on March 15 at 11:00 a.m. at The Fields in Buena Vista, Va.
