Andrew Stephens begins his first season as an assistant coach for the Southern Virginia women’s basketball team.
Stephens enters the season with over 27 years of coaching experience, including six in the collegiate ranks. With a winning percentage of .507% over the course of his career, including a .667% winning percentage in tournament play as a women’s basketball coach, Stephens’ varsity girls’ teams have captured five tournament titles, and three state tournament berths in five seasons. He has also had two different varsity girls’ teams ranked in the top ten in two different states (Ariz.-#2, Ga.-#7).
Before his time at Southern Virginia, Stephens most recently coached at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Va. and at Westbury High School in Houston, Texas. He has held coaching positions in Georgia, Florida, Arizona, Texas, and Virginia.
Stephens received his bachelor’s degree in broadcasting in 1997 from Arizona State University, and has done post bachelor’s degree work for his teaching certification at Georgia State University and Northland Pioneer College.
Andrew and his wife, Rachel, have been married for 12 years and have a 3-year old son, Elijah.
