NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's basketball team was dealt their fourth loss of the season Wednesday night at Christopher Newport 69-47.
The Knights (17-4, 8-3) were limited offensively in the first quarter, shooting 21.4 percent with seven turnovers. The Captains (17-5, 8-3) benefited from the Knights miscues shooting 37.5 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from deep, closing the quarter leading by double figures 17-6.
In the second quarter, the Captains extended their lead holding the Knights to 20.0 percent shooting. Southern Virginia headed into the half trailing 32-18.
The Knights were unable to gain any traction in the second half despite an improved offensive effort. Christopher Newport outscored the Knights 37-29 in the final two quarters, winning the game 69-47.
Christopher Newport's Kiana Kirkland led all scorers with 23.
The Knights stay on the road as they face Salisbury Saturday, Feb. 9 at 1:00 p.m.
