FROSTBURG, Md. — The Southern Virginia University women's basketball team lost Wednesday night 72-67 at Frostburg State.
The Knights (16-3, 7-2) entered the half leading 31-26 after trailing by five at the end of the first quarter. Southern Virginia's 21-11 second quarter was catalyzed by Katie Garrish scoring 11 points. The Knights shot 11-11 from the free throw line to offset the offensive struggles.
The Bobcats (13-6, 5-4) produced a strong third quarter. They outscored the Knights 30-23, giving them the edge at quarters end 56-54.
The fourth quarter continued back-and-forth play until the five-minute mark when Frostburg State captured the lead 63-62 and would not relinquish it, closing out the Knights with a 72-67 victory.
Garrish led the Knights scoring 27 points with nine rebounds, four assists and four blocks. Savanna Christensen added nine points and seven rebounds and Amanda Wood led the Knight's bench with seven points.
The Knights outrebounded the Bobcats 44-38 and had the upper hand in second-chance points 21-6 while also shooting 15-18 from the free throw line.
Southern Virginia returns to Knight Arena Saturday, Feb. 2 against York (Pa.) at 1 p.m.
