FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference today released the members of the All-CAC Women's Basketball Teams, with Southern Virginia freshman Katie Garrish being named Rookie of the Year, and both Garrish and senior Shelby Butler voted to the All-CAC Second Team. The forwards helped lead Southern Virginia to a 12-win year, the highest win total the program has had since the 2012-13 season.
Garrish becomes the first player in program history to be named CAC Rookie of the Year. The honor comes after a phenomenal rookie campaign in which she finished second in the conference in points per game with 15.0, and led the conference in the rebounds per game at 11.2, as well as blocks per game at 3.1.
The forward posted impressive season highs of 26 points and 18 rebounds on New Year's Day against Salem College, as well as eight blocked shots at Christopher Newport earlier this month, setting a Freeman Center record.
Shelby Butler was also voted to the All-CAC Second Team after finishing the year with 13.0 points per game, good for seventh in the conference, as well as 6.1 rebounds per game. She also scored a career-high of 32 points this year at York (Pa.).
