BUENA VISTA, Va. – Despite a career-high 32 points from senior forward Shelby Butler, the Southern Virginia University women's basketball team lost its contest with York College (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon by a score of 106-89.

The Knights (8-4, 2-4 CAC) matched up well with the Spartans (9-4, 5-1 CAC) in the first half, taking a 46-43 lead into the intermission. The Spartans shot lights out in the second half, however, making 72.2% of their shots to pull away for the victory.

The high-scoring game was a result of great shooting and high-pressure defense from both teams, with a total of 54 turnovers being committed in the game. The turnovers turned into easy points for both squads, with the Knights scoring 20 points off turnovers and the Spartans scoring 29. The Knights also shot well from the charity stripe, going 23-28.

The Knights were led by Butler, who scored her 32 points on 10-16 shooting from the field and 12-12 at the free throw line and added five rebounds. Forward Katie Garrish was the only other Knight in double figures with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks.

The Spartans were led by forward Katie McGowan who totaled 24 points on 11-19 shooting to go along with nine rebounds, five assists, five steals, and two blocks.

Southern Virginia will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday evening as they take on No. 6 Christopher Newport University. Tip-off will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Knight Sports Arena.
