BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's basketball team finished the 2016-17 season with a 4-21 overall record and went 1-17 in the Capital Athletic Conference.

Under the direction of third-year head coach Heather Roberts, the Knights earned their CAC win, 70-50, over St. Mary's College of Maryland in the final game of the season. The three other wins came against non-conference opponents Notre Dame (Md.), Roanoke, and Mary Baldwin.

The Knights were led by junior Shelby Winsor (West Richland, Wash.) who was fourth in the conference with 13.9 points per game and averaged 7.5 rebounds. She also recorded five double-doubles on the year.

Merideth Ouellette (Suffield, Conn.) contributed 11.9 points per game and Kimberly Eads (Ellicott City, Md.) averaged 8.5 points and 4.4 rebounds.

"This was a year of growth and development," Coach Roberts commented. "Our team was extremely young, but competitive, and the growth I witnessed makes me excited for next year.

"We will have a solid foundation to build on next year, along with several key additions to the team who will fill necessary roles."

Southern Virginia loses seniors Morgan Hartvigsen (Kaysville, Utah) and Kadie Hair (Payson, Utah). In her four years, Hartvigsen averaged seven points per game and shot 77% from beyond the arc.
