BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia University women's basketball team lost 89-69 at home to Penn State-Harrisburg in a conference matchup.
The Knights (3-18, 0-14 CAC) took an early lead in the game and led by as many as 13 points in the second quarter. However, the Lions (5-16, 3-11 CAC), went on a 14-0 run to take a 31-30 lead late in the half and went into halftime with a two-point advantage.
The second half was controlled by Penn St.-Harrisburg as they held the Knights to 12 points in the fourth and shot 80% from the free-throw line.
Shelby Winsor led all Knights with 20 points and nine rebounds; Merideth Ouellette contributed 16 points and six rebounds. Freshman Alexus Barnes added 13 points, including three treys from beyond the arc.
Over 70 turnovers were committed in the game, causing both teams to miss opportunities in the high-paced contest. Southern Virginia shot 33.9% from the field compared to the Lions 37.5%.
The Knights continue Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday, February 8 as they travel to Frostburg State University. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. EST.
