Knights Fall Short to Chatham

BALTIMORE, Md.—The Southern Virginia women's basketball team lost 80-75 in a close game to Chatham University in the opening game of the Notre Dame Tip-off Tournament. 

The Cougars (1-1) took the early lead after the first quarter, but the Knights  (0-2) regained control at halftime and held that lead going into the final quarter. Despite the lead, Chatham was able to pull away in the final minutes of the game for their first win of the season.

Junior Shelby Winsor tied her career-high 17 points to lead the Knights' offense. Winsor also grabbed six rebounds. Alexus Barnes scored 15 points off the bench. Jamilla Gambee and Merideth Ouellette each scored 12 points.

The Knights shot an impressive 55.8% from the field and 50% from behind the arc. 

Southern Virginia plays Notre Dame University of Maryland on November 19 at 1 p.m. in the consolation game of the weekend classic.
