BALTIMORE—A 20-point, ten-rebound performance from Shelby Winsor and 100% shooting in overtime led to a Southern Virginia women's basketball 19-point win over Notre Dame of Maryland on Saturday.
The Knights (1-2) had a four-point lead after the first period, but were only able to score nine points in the second, leading to a nine-point deficit at the half. Southern Virginia cut the lead to three after the third quarter, and tied the game at 72 as regulation time expired.
Five different players scored in overtime as the Knights shot 100% from the field, and only missed one free throw in extra time. The Gators (1-2), on the other hand, were held to just one made basket.
Sophomore forward Kimberly Eads (Ellicott City, Md.) scored her career-high 18 points and added nine rebounds for the Knights. Sophomore guard Merideth Ouellette (Suffield, Conn.) chipped in a season-high 16 points and three steals. Junior guard Jamilla Gambee (Junction City, Ore.) led the Knights with five steals and added six points.
Overall the Knights had a season-low 16 turnovers and season-high 59 rebounds and 23 assists. Winsor (West Richland, Wash.) finished shooting 50% for the day without a single free throw.
Southern Virginia hosts Roanoke in its season opener on Tuesday, November 22 in the Knight Sports Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
