The two teams last met on Friday, Nov. 15, of last year with The Apprentice School picking up a 75-58 victory at Knight Sports Arena in Buena Vista, Va. It was the first contest of the season for both squads. Poor shooting in that game plagued the Knights, especially in the first half as the Shipbuilders gained a 35-11 advantage by halftime. Southern Virginia outscored Apprentice in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Shipbuilders' attack. Freshman Paige Crittendon led all Knight scorers with 13 points, while Courtney Collins had 18 to lead The Apprentice School.
About the Knights
Southern Virginia enters this contest with momentum having snapped a nine-game skid and picking up its first ever Capital Athletic Conference victory, a 54-51 win over Wesley College just two days ago. The Knights will look to avenge their early-season loss to the Shipbuilders as they travel on the road to The Apprentice School.
On the season, Southern Virginia is averaging 55.6 ppg while shooting 36.2 percent from the floor. The Knights are also averaging 41.0 rebounds per game and a strong 8.6 steals per game, while holding opponents to 68.1 ppg.
At 10.5 ppg, freshman guard Tatiana Monsen leads Southern Virginia in scoring while contributing team bests of 2.4 assists per game and 2.2 steals per game. Morgan Hartvigsen, Shannon Romito and Crystal Cleveland will join the attack as they all pitch in close to nine points per contest.
The Knights will need to play a well-rounded game in order to beat the Shipbuilders.
