UNIONTOWN, Pa.—Nicole Baker today was named to the USCAA All-Tournament Team after averaging 26 points and 13 rebounds for the Southern Virginia University women's basketball team during the Knights' two games at the national tournament.
A USCAA Honorable Mention All-American last season, Baker (Burley, Idaho) was selected to this year's All-American team after leading Southern Virginia in scoring (17.4 ppg), rebounding (9.3 rpg) and field-goal percentage (58.6).
Baker lived up to her All-American selection in the tournament's opening round as the senior scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds guiding Southern Virginia to a 73-55 victory over Berkeley College-NY—the Knights first post season win since 2009.
Baker was even better in the tournament quarterfinals grabbing 13 boards and scoring 31 on 10-for-18 shooting, including 5-for-6 from three-point range, while accounting for more than half the Knights points and field goals during a 57-62 loss to Selma College.
"Nicole epitomized an All-American the entire season," said thirteen-year head coach Mike Harmon. "She led by example and always did exactly what her team needed."
Harmon explained that when the team needed Baker to carry more of the scoring load during the second half of the season, the senior captain stepped up her game to another level averaging 23.7 points over Southern Virginia's final 13 games after averaging 10.0 points over the Knights' first 11 contests.
"Nicole always carried herself with class and dignity and it's great to see her recognized for her achievements," said Harmon.
Baker was also named to the USCAA national academic team along with teammate Abigail Logan.
