Baker, Logan Receive USCAA Honors

Written by Chris Pendleton

UNIONTOWN, Pa.—The United States Collegiate Athletic Association today announced its All-American and national academic selections for the 2011-12 women's basketball season honoring Nicole Baker and Abigail Logan of the Southern Virginia University women's basketball team.

Baker (Burley, Idaho) headlined the Southern Virginia selections earning All-American honors after leading the Knights this season in several statistical categories, including scoring average (16.6 ppg), rebounding (9.0 rpg) and field goal percentage (59.0 percent).

"Nicole is very deserving of this honor," said thirteen-year head coach Mike Harmon. "She does exactly what her team needs her to do, which is the true definition of an All-American."

Baker, who was named an Honorable Mention All-American last season, has been sensation over the second-half of her senior season when the Knights needed her to carry more of the offensive load. During Southern Virginia's final eleven games, Baker averaged a double-double—23.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game—and scored a career-best 38-points on Feb. 11 at Bennett College.

Baker was also named to the USCAA's national academic team, along junior forward Logan (Buena Vista, Va.), who averaged 4.0 points and 3.4 four rebounds for the Knights this season.

"It's great to see Nicole and Abi honored for their commitment to academic excellence," said Harmon.

Southern Virginia received a No. 5 seed at the national tournament earlier this week and will begin play tomorrow, Mar. 7 against No. 12 Berkeley College at 9:30 p.m. EDT.
