Women's Basketball Closes Out Season With Win

TAKOMA PARK, Md. - The Southern Virginia University women's basketball team ended its season on a positive note, as they swept the season series over Washington Adventist with a 73-57 win. Led by Abi Logan's breakout performance of 25-points and 4-rebounds, the Knights were able to rally from an 8-point first half deficit. Earlier in the season, SVU had led from start to finish in an 81-55 win. The second match would start differently, as WAU got off to a hot start, and took an 8-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game.

Logan would get the visitors on the board, and her shooting in the first half would help Southern Virginia erase the deficit, and take a halftime lead at 27-24. Logan would finish the first half with 13-points. Nicole Tolman was also a presence down low for the Knights, as she added 16-points, and ten rebounds, for an eighth double-double on the season.

The Knights would start the second half where they left off in the first, and would go on a 13-1 run over the first five minutes of he second term to put the game out of reach for the Shock. A 41-25 lead for the visitors was slowly but surely added to, and the Knights had the largest lead of the game at 21-points with 12-minutes left in the game.

Jessica Anderson again drove the offense as she recorded seven assists. Cara Joyner was the third leading scorer for the Knights, adding 10-points to the total. The second half saw the Knights shoot a blistering 60% from the field. Both teams were in frequent foul trouble, with the teams combining for 52-second half free throws. Southern Virginia connected on eighteen free-throw attempts in the second half, and went 19-of-28 for the game,

Overall, the visitors were 26-of-54 from the field for a 48% average for the night. WAU would mount a comeback in the second half to get to within 9-points before SVU closed out the game on a 17-10 run.

SVU's regular season ended with the win, and left the Knights at 13-14 on the season. Another bit of good news came to the Knights prior to tipoff, as the USCAA extended an invitation to take part in the USCAA National Tournament. Games for the tournament start on March 1. Brackets and game times will be announced in the coming week. SVU will head to the tournament in Uniontown, PA with the hopes of bringing home another national title.
