GREENSBORO, N.C. - Behind double-digit points from both Mina Romito and Nicole Tolman, the Southern Virginia University women's basketball team ended a three-game losing skid with a road victory over Bennett, 62-45. SVU never trailed in the game, and was able to jump all over the hosts in the first half. A 33-11 lead at the half proved to be all that the Knights would need, as they put the game out of reach early.
Romito played another solid outing, as she put in 17-points, and pulled down 5-rebounds. Tolman added a fifth double-double for the season as she led all players with 15-rebounds, and chipped in 16-points.
The Knights shot nearly 40% from the field, and limited the hosts to 23% on 14-of-59 shooting. The visitors really made their mark from the free-throw line, as they made 25-trips in comparison to Bennett's 12. The Knights converted on 18-free throws, and those points alone almost gave the visitors the margin of victory.
Abi Logan added a strong showing in the paint as she added 12-points, on 6-of-10 shooting, an added another 3-rebounds to the cause. The Knights held an advantage in the paint, as they pulled down 11-more rebounds (41-30) than the hosts.
Logan's points boosted the second unit for the Knights, as they contributed 20-points to the cause. The win for the Knights helped the team's perfect record against USCAA foes, and moved the team to 7-11 on the season.
SVU will return to action for its final outing against an NCAA D.I foe, when the team travels to face Elon. The Jan. 27 game in Elon has a 12:00 start time, as it is Education Day for the Phoenix, who will welcome local elementary schools to watch the contest.
