Knights Score Second Victory Over Penn State- Fayette

UNIONTOWN, Pa. - The Southern Virginia University women's basketball team rebounded from a tough early week schedule to record a second win of the season over Penn State- Fayette, 52-36. Led by Cara Joyner's 13-point, 5-rebound day, the Knights were able to get a win over a team that they have found success against in the past two years. The win over the Lions was the fourth win in five tries against the USCAA foe. SVU had already scored an earlier win over the hosts at the Great Ships Classic, and the team was looking to get back in the winning column.

Joyner's points helped the SVU second unit outscore the Lions' 20-13, and propelled the team to the victory. SVU had a double-digit lead going in to half-time, as they led 28-17. Nicole Tolman was again providing the offensive push, as she registered eight points, on her way to a 12-point, 9-rebound afternoon. Carly Skinner was making the most of a starting spot, as she also added eight points in he first half, and finished with 10-points and 7-rebounds.

SVU was shooting 40% from the field, but a stifling defense was shutting down the hosts, as they could muster only a 24% average from the field on 13-of-54 shooting. When PSF missed the Knights were on hand to clean up the mess and transition in to the offense, as the visitors pulled down 46-rebounds in comparison to PSF's 29.The Knights were also able to poach 13-balls from the Lions, as they forced PSF into 20-turnovers.

Tolman was also playing provider as she set up three different scores, and matched Jasmin Johnson's tally of three assist for the game. SVU had gone 11-of-22 in the first half from the field, but cooled off in the second to finish with the 40% mark. The Knights were solid from beyond the arc, as they shot 30% from three point range on 4-of-13 3-point shooting.

The win pushes the Knights to a 3-6 record on the season. SVU will return to action Nov. 30 when they travel to face off against Milligan.
