Knights Can't Find Win Against Meredith

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Southern Virginia University women's basketball team was looking to get back to winning ways, and despite another double-double from Nicole Tolman, the Knights fell, 74-60. Te game was a low scoring affair in the first half, as the teams went in to the break at 25-17. The game was busted open in the second, as both teams combined for 92-points in a flurry of offense. SVU recorded 43-points, but could solve the Avenging Angels' hot scoring touch, as the hosts pumped 49-points in for the final 14-point margin of victory.

Tolman continued a fine stretch of play, as she put in 21-points and 11-rebounds for her second double-double of the season. She led the Knights in scoring, and was tied with Megan Rahn of Meredith for leading scorer of the game. Jasmin Johnson had another solid game, adding 10-points and 4-rebounds, but the Knights could not find a third scorer to keep pace with the hosts in the back-and-forth second half.

The Knights were unable to contain Meredith, as the hosts got to the line 32-times, and converted on twenty-five of their free-throw attempts. The disparity in free throw attempts was the difference for Meredith in winning the game. SVU outrebounded the Avenging Angels, but could not turn that advantage in to points for a victory. SVU also could not contain the hosts' bench, as Meredith's second team scored 37-points in comparison to SVU's 23.

A statistic that will leave the Knights scratching their heads is the amount of shots they got off. SVU took 65-shots to Meredith's 47. The hosts were able to convert the same amount of hosts as SVU (23), but used the advantage at the line for the win.

The loss pushes the Knights down to a 2-6 record. The Thanksgiving break will be followed by a game for SVU against Penn State- Fayette. SVU used a team offensive effort last week to give the Knights a big win over PSF at the Great Ships Classic. SVU will be looking for a similar result in the rematch Nov. 27. Tipoff for the game is set for 2:00 pm.
