Hiatt's 20 Leads Knights to Victory

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. A twenty-point performance from Kara Hiatt pushed the Southern Virginia Women's Basketball team to a victory over Penn State-Fayette at the Great Ships Classic. The win pushes SVU to 3-2 on the season, and the Knights were perfect at the classic hosted by The Apprentice School. Hiatt also contributed 4 assist and 4 steals as she paced the Knights to victory.

"Two wins in two days is a good thing for us," said Head Coach Mike Harmon. "A team always needs momentum. I think we got a things rolling with the win today as well as the win yesterday. We play a good NAIA school after the Thanksgiving break, and we need to be headed in a positive direction as we face them. Today's result will get us going in the right direction."

Hiatt was a force at the free-throw line as she converted on 10 of her 13 attempts. Kezia Ford produced another solid effort as she recorded 11-points and 9-rebounds. For her efforts Ford was named to the all-tournament team for the weekend. She recorded 31-points and 22-rebounds in the two games SVU played in. Cara Joyner had another strong game for SVU as she put in 12-points and recorded 4-rebounds, three of them on the offensive end.

SVU again was solid on the boards as they out-rebounded PSF 44-40. The Knights were able to force the issue against the fellow USCAA team as they forced 22 turnovers. SVU shot 43% from the field and 61% from the line.

SVU will be in action again Nov. 30 when the team travels to play Bluefield. The game is scheduled for a 5:30 tipoff.
