Knight Trio Leads Team To Victory Over Penn State- Fayette

UNIONTOWN, Pa. Three Southern Virginia Women's Basketball players scored double-digit points as the Knights returned to winning ways with victory over Penn State-Fayette 60-41. Mariah Flake  scored 15-points, Kara Hiatt put in 11-points, and Cara Joyner dropped in 10-points to pace the visitors to a much needed victory.

SVU jumped to a 23-16 first-half lead and was able to maintain the lead in the second half, as the Knights shot close to 40% from the field. The percentage was not overwhelming, but the Knight defense was as they limited Penn State- Fayette to 15-of-53 shooting for a 28 % shooting percentage for the game.

The Knights were able to pull away in the second as they put in 37-points to the Lions' 25, and coasted to the easy victory. Hiatt led the team with 7-rebounds, as the Knights out-rebounded the hosts 47-37. Jasmin Johnson followed Hiatt with 6-rebounds.

SVU was able to use the 3-point shot effectively as they went 4-for-12 from behind the three-point line. The Knights went to the line 16-times, but could only convert 50% of their attempts. Southern Virginia forced the hosts into 27-turnovers.

The Knights move to 6-11 on the season. SVU returns to action Jan. 27 when they travel to play at NCAA D.I Wofford. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
