Elon Too Much For Knights

ELON, N.C. Facing a second NCAA D.I opponent in two days, the Southern Virginia Women's Basketball team fought hard but succumbed to a talented Elon team 83-32. The Knights got 7-points each from Mariah Flake and Jasmin Johnson, but the talent gap between the larger D.I school and SVU was apparent, as the Phoenix were able to establish a large first half lead and coast the rest of the game.

Shooting woes for the Knights continued as they were able to shoot only 21% from the field. The Knights went 11-of-52 from the field, but had a better game from behind the 3-point line as they shot 3-for-13 on the day.

Ashley Baird produced a solid display in the paint as she put in 6-points, and pulled down a team-leading 7-rebounds.

SVU made few trips to the free-throw line, but converted 7-of-9 on the line for a 77% mark from the line. The Knights improved from their rebounding woes the previous game and pulled down 28-boards to Elon's 44.

The Knights are now 6-13 on the season. SVU returns home Feb. 4 to host Washington Adventist. Tip-off for the game is 6:00 pm, in Knight Arena.
