Knights Scrape By Bennett

GREENSBORO, N.C. A total team effort allowed the Southern Virginia Women's Basketball team to overcome the loss of their leading scorer and secure a much-needed 49-46 win over Bennett. Jasmin Johnson led the Knights with 12-points, and pulled down 3-rebounds. Foul trouble for Johnson hampered her contribution to the game, but SVU received help from different players to get the win, which ends a 6-game slide for the Knights.

A trio of players contributed 8-points a-piece for the Knights. Carly Skinner and Cara Joyner scored their eight, and then pulled down 8-rebounds to give the Knights a solid inside presence. SVU went in to the half leading 25-20, and was able to hold off Bennett in the second half, as the hosts looked to get back in the game.

SVU again was strong on the glass as they pulled down 34-total rebounds for the game. The Knights proved lethal from the free-throw line as they converted on 12-of-14 attempts from the line.

SVU moves to 5-9 on the season. The Knights return to the court when they host Mary Baldwin Jan. 19. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
