Laura Workman enters her second year as an assistant softball coach and assistant to the Athletic Communications Director for Southern Virginia University.
Workman grew up playing softball in Othello, Wash., and her family moved to Pasco, Wash. in 2004 where she continued to play for and graduate from Pasco High School in 2009.
Following graduation, Workman began playing for Southern Virginia University. She helped her team get to the USCAA championship tournament where her team forfeited the Sunday games and placed fifth overall. In the fall of 2010, Southern Virginia University replaced head coach Col. Mike Smith with Duste Grawrock, who Workman played for the following three years. During her final season, Workman served as a team captain and made a transition from catcher to center field.
Workman graduated from Southern Virginia University in the spring of 2013 with a bachelor's degree in Spanish and liberal arts as well as minors in biology and chemistry. As an undergrad she was active in student government and was a member of the first Student Athlete Advisory Committee at Southern Virginia. Workman was also active in the community as a youth mentor, a volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity resale store and an avid Remote Area Medical volunteer.
Laura and her husband, Tod, a member of the football team, reside in Buena Vista.
