Kortny Hall enters her first season as head coach of the Southern Virginia University softball program.

Hall comes to Southern Virginia following a tremendous head coaching tenure at Liberty High School in Peoria, Ariz., where she started the softball program in 2007 and built it into one of the state’s most successful through the 2013 season. Before coaching five all-district players in 2013, she led her 2012 squad to a state tournament appearance with four girls being named all-region to go with two all-state selections.

She led the Lions to their first state tournament appearance in 2010 with her first senior class, garnering Coach of the Year honors after leading Liberty to a region championship. Her 2010 roster featured seven all-region players and the state’s 2010 Player of the Year.

Hall guided Liberty to a second straight region championship in 2011 and state runner-up finish with a roster that included nine all-region players and three all-state selections. Following the stellar campaign, she was named Arizona’s West Valley Coach of the Year and the state’s Big School Coach of the Year. In addition, her 2011 staff was nominated for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Coaching Staff of the Year award.

Prior to taking the helm at Liberty, Hall was a pitching/catching graduate assistant at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah, helping the Thunderbirds to its second ever NCAA regional tournament appearance and a Mid-Continent Conference title in 2007. She also invented and implemented a mechanics corrector for pitchers called “The Pitching Partner.”

A four-time scholar-athlete at Southern Utah from 2003-06, Hall was named an ESPN Magazine Academic All-American in 2006 and led the Thunderbirds to the 2006 NCAA Division I tournament, the school’s first appearance. In 2006, she was honored as an NCAA Division I All-West Region catcher and was a two-time All-Mid Continent Conference catcher from 2005-06.

Prior to Southern Utah, Hall attended Phoenix College in Phoenix, Ariz., where she helped the team to a NJCAA national championship in 2004. She was named the Region I NJCAA Most Valuable Player in 2004 and the association’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Recognized as one of only two Outstanding Student Award honorees from the SUU physical education department in May 2007, Hall graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southern Utah with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and health. She went on to receive a master’s in human performance and sports conditioning from Southern Utah in May 2010.
