GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Southern Virginia University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader on Wednesday to Guildford College, losing 3-1 in the first and 18-2 in the second.
The Knights (3-11) surrendered the first runs of the game to the Quakers (11-1) in the bottom of the first inning on a single down the line scoring two now leading 2-0.
After holding the Quakers to three scoreless innings, in the bottom of the fifth another single brought in another lead to increase the Knights deficit to 3-0.
Southern Virginia's first and only run of the game came off the bat of pitcher Megan Harmon who singled to center scoring Madison Rigby. After a potential and promising rally on a Krystal Kemp double, the Knights failed to produce a run in the final inning falling 3-1.
Starting game one for the Knights on the mound was Harmon going four innings and earning a strikeout.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Quakers scored 12 runs in the first two innings while also limiting the Knights at the plate.
The Knights first run of the game came by way of a Quakers throwing error allowing Megan Standiford to score. Following the error, Caitlin Barber grounded out to score Beth Hudson with the Knights trailing now 12-2.
The Quakers added six more runs in the bottom of the fourth to put away the Knights 18-2 in five innings.
The Knights continue their road trip as they will face Bridgewater Friday, Mar. 15 in a doubleheader at 3 & 5 p.m.
