FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — The Capital Athletic Conference announced the 2018 Softball Preseason Poll today, with the Southern Virginia University softball team projected for an eighth-place finish.
The Knights finished with a 14-23 overall record last season, in her second season, head coach Tiffane Pendleton looks to build on the team's progress after their best season since joining Division III and collecting the school's first wins in CAC competition.
Southern Virginia returns 10 players with seven being starters. Junior pitcher Megan Harmon will anchor the pitching staff after posting an 11-11 overall record. Last season the Knights offense hit an impressive .327 finishing third in the CAC.
"I am excited with the depth our roster has this season," said head coach Tiffane Pendleton. "I look forward to seeing the progression our offense will make after a tremendous past season at the plate. Our returning core returning will help play a major role in what we want to accomplish this season."
The Knights' season begins on the road with a doubleheader at Salem College on Friday, Feb. 15 at 3 and 5 p.m.
Nationally ranked Christopher Newport was picked first in the poll with five first-place votes, while Salisbury also received two first-place votes.
