Knights Drop Two in Season-Opener

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Southern Virginia University opened up its season on Friday, dropping both games of a double-header against Salem College by scores of 11-2 and 9-0.

In game one of the day, the Knights (0-2) remained scoreless until the fifth inning, in which shortstop Caitlin Barber hit a double to drive in the Knights' only two runs of the game. Also with hits for Southern Virginia were Megan Harmon, Tara Hilton, and Madison Rigby, while catcher Bethanie Hudson drew three walks.

Harmon took the loss in the circle, giving up 15 hits and six earned runs over four innings pitched in the 11-2 loss.

Game two was more of the same as the Spirits (2-2) out-hit the Knights 11 to 4 to come away with the 9-0 win.

Kamberlynne Washburn tallied a pair of hits for Southern Virginia, while Harmon and Bethanie Hudson added a hit each as well. Harmon was in the circle again, pitching four innings in the loss.
