Buena Vista, Va.—The Southern Virginia softball team fell to 0-11 after two close non-league games against the University of Maine Presque Isle at Harvey-Dryden Field this afternoon by 4-1 and 6-0 margins.
The Knights (0-11, 0-4 CAC) struggled to produce runs today, scoring only one run in to games, a run that coinsidentaly came in the bottom of the fourth inning.
After giving up three runs for the Owls (3-5) in the top of the fourth to make the score 4-0, senior shortstop Makenzie Cox stepped to the plate in the bottom half of the inning and singled down the left field line. A sacrifice bunt by Makayla Brown and single by Keelie Gray advanced Cox to third where she could score on a Jamie Pinkston double.
Pinkston also had a double in the bottom of the second and pitched a great game one, only giving up two earned runs and recording five strikeouts. In game two she allowed two earned runs and struck out two Owls.
Catcher Lainie Thompson also had two doubles on the day.
The Knights will play a double header at CAC opponent Frostburg State on Wednesday at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. and will host Mary Washington on Thursday at 5 and 7 p.m. in Buena Vista, Virginia.
