Softball Faces Mary Washington, Christopher Newport This Weekend

About the Knights

Southern Virginia will hit the road for the weekend to face Capital Athletic Conference opponents Mary Washington and Christopher Newport for the first time ever. The Knights are coming off a three-game sweep over University of Maine-Presque Isle Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Cheyenne Hegsted bumped past McKenzie Packard and leads the Knights with a .371 batting average and a .421 on-base percentage with 11 stolen bases. Packard continues to lead the team with nine RBI, and trails behind Hegsted with a .343 batting average, .385 on-base percentage and 10 stolen bases.

Southern Virginia will look to execute at the plate and be solid on defense to pick up its first CAC victories.

About the Eagles

The Eagles recently swept York (Pa.) College in a doubleheader to maintain their undefeated CAC record. As a team, the Eagles have a .254 batting average and a .335 on-base percentage.

Junior Brittany Scites leads the Eagles with a .367 batting average, 18 hits, 10 runs, and has five RBI and four stolen bases. Senior Bireet Chitty trails behind with a .327 batting average, has one home run, 16 hits and six RBI. Senior Hannah Williams follows with 10 hits, leads with eight RBI and eight stolen bases.

The Eagles' pitching staff is led by junior Hannah Otterman. After 61 innings in the circle, Otterman has a 2.28 earned run average, a team-high 42 strikeouts and a 7-1 record. The Eagles have a combined 3.64 earned run average, 62 strikouts and 33 walks.

The Captains recently swept both York College and Penn St.-Harrisburg and earned four CAC victories. As a team, the Captains have a .345 batting average and a .412 on-base percentage.

Sabrina Hill leads the Captains with 22 RBI, eight homeruns, 33 hits and has a .388 batting average. Meagan Jones leads the Captains with six stolen bases, maintains a .337 batting average, is second in most hits with 30 and has 12 RBI and nine walks.

The Captains' pitching staff has a combined 2.18 earned run average and is led by sophomore Krista Lewis. Lewis, after 72 innings in the circle, has a 1.94 earned run average and 38 strikeouts. Sophomore Hanah Marshall has a 3.28 earned run average after 68 innings in the circle and has recorded 45 strikeouts. Freshman Makayla Jenkins has a 0.00 earned run average after 26 innings in the circle and has recorded 28 strikeouts.
