About the Knights

Southern Virginia will face its first Capital Athletic Conference opponent this season as it seeks to earn its first victory of the 2014 season. The Knights recently fell to ODAC member Guilford College, 15-0 and 6-0, Thursday evening.

Sophomore shortstop Cheyenne Hegsted continues to lead the Knights with a .364 batting average and a .462 on-base percentage in 11 at-bats. Freshman McKenzie Packard leads the Knights with four runs batted in and one triple this season.

Southern Virginia will look for consistency at the plate and be solid on defense to pick up its first victory.

About the Spartans

The Spartans recently swept Juniata to earn their sixth win of the season. The visiting Spartans come with a young squad yet to face a CAC opponent.

Freshman Carleigh Ruleman leads the Spartans with a .333 batting average off of 10 hits in 30 at-bats. Senior Alyssa Molino follows close behind with a .321 batting average with nine hits in 28 at bats while freshman Katie Maloney trails behind with a .294 batting average off of 10 hits in 34 bats.  Ruleman also leads the team with three homeruns, while Maloney leads with three stolen bases. The freshman duo is tied for the most runs batted in with seven.

The Spartan pitching staff has a combined 3.9 earned run average and is led by freshman Jennifer Taff. Taff, after 38 innings in the circle, has a 3.13 earned run average, allowed 46 hits, eight walks, 17 strikeouts and no home runs this season.
