About the Knights
Southern Virginia is looking for its first victory of the 2014 season as it faces NCAA Division III ODAC member Guilford College. The Knights have dropped two doubleheaders to start the season to Emory & Henry and Wilson College.
Sophomore shortstop Cheyenne Hegsted continues to lead the Knights with a .375 batting average and a .500 on-base percentage in eight at-bats. Freshman McKenzie Packard leads the Knights with four runs batted in and one triple this season.
Southern Virginia will look for consistency at the plate and be solid on defense to pick up its first victory.
About the Quakers
The Quakers recently split a double header with Virginia Wesleyan to record their second loss this season. As a team, the Quakers are averaging a .334 batting average and .403 on-base percentage. The Quakers have a combined 26 steals, 166 hits and 90 runs batted in.
Senior Cynthia Hayes leads the Quakers with an impressive .596 batting average, a team high of 34 hits, six steals and a .671 on-base percentage in 57 at bats. Behind Hayes are juniors Marty Wilcox and Rachel Howard. Wilcox leads the team with 21 runs batted in, and three home runs. Wilcox has the second best slugging percentage with .661 and has 22 hits in 56 at bats. Howard has only one strikeout in 43 at bats this season and has the second-best batting average of .419 and a .490 on base percentage. Howard has recorded 12 runs batted in and two homeruns this season.
The Quakers' pitching staff has a combined 2.79 earned run average and is led by sophomore Maggie Shaffer. Shaffer has a 2.68 earned run average after 47 innings on the mound and has limited opponents to a .251 batting average. She has allowed 46 hits in 183 at bats and recorded 17 strikeouts and 20 walks.
