Mackay Named Pitcher of the Week

BUENA VISTA, Va.—The United States Collegiate Athletic Association today announced senior starting pitcher McKenzy Mackay (Kaysville, Utah) as USCAA Softball Pitcher of the Week.

"McKenzy [Mackay] is very deserving of the recognition as our workhorse in the circle," said third-year Head Coach Duste Grawrock. "She threw really well last week and has done a great job this season of exploiting opposing batters' weaknesses from subtleties she notices in their stance and swing."

Mackay threw 17.0 combined innings last week going 2-1, while recording 18 strikeouts and allowing six runs—only four earned. Two of Mackay's outing were complete games, highlighted by a seven-inning, five-strikeout peformance during a 3-2 win over Bluefield College, which was also Southern Virginia's first victory of the season.

In addition, the three-year starter combined with reliever Sarah Edwards (Phoenix, Ariz.) for a no-hitter against Washington Adventist on Friday, Mar. 1. The Knights handed the Shock a 14-1 defeat as Mackay struck out eight of the ten batters faced and allowed only one walk during her three innings of work against Washington Adventist.

Mackay leads the squad in ERA (4.65), innings pitched (31.0) and strikeouts (33) this season while going the distance in four of the five games she has started in the circle.
