FREDERICK, Md. The Southern Virginia Softball team was unable to score a run in either of its games against Hood, as the team fell 0-8 and 0-1. The Knights were able to muster only five hits in the two games, and could not keep the hosts from getting 13-hits between the two games.
Abbie Fisher and Mallory King were the two SVU batters to get on base in the first game. Both players were able to get to second base, but they would not get farther, as Hood shut down the Knight offense in the first game. The Knights were not able to get anyone else on base the remainder of the game.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the second, when the hosts exploded for seven runs, and put the game away the next inning when they tacked on another run. SVU hurt themselves in the game with five errors, with two occurring in the second inning Hood explosion.
SVU regrouped and put in a solid effort defensively in the second game, as they limited Hood to only 3-hits for the game. Amanda Otto rebounded from the slow start against the hosts in the first game to limit the bats of Hood.
Fisher and King again got on base with a double and a single, while Laura Tome added the third hit for the afternoon.
With the losses the Knights fall to 17-7. SVU will return to action April 12 when they travel to play a double-header at Virginia Union. The first game is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
