Southern Virginia Finishes Third at the CAC Championships

BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University men's cross country team earned a third-place finish at the Capital Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday at the Vista Links Golf Course.

This was the first time in school history that the Knights have hosted the championships.

The men's third-place finish is the highest finish in the young program's history, surpassing last years' fifth overall finish.

The Knights were led by Mike Myers, earning a sixth-place overall finish and First Team All-CAC honors, with a time of 26:54.0. Colter May finished ninth overall and would receive Second Team All-CAC with a time of 27:05.6. Junior Kevin Shelley also contributed largely to the Knights race with a top-20 finish.

Freshman Hunter Lund (26th) and Brendan Scott (57th) complete the Knights top-5.

"I am happy with today's performances; we held tough throughout the race," said Head Coach Clint May. "Third place is a huge accomplishment. We have wanted to crack through the top four places as a team for a while now. Our men's team did that today and I couldn't be more proud."

The York Spartans won both the men and women titles.

The Knights will now prepare for the Regional Championships Saturday, Nov. 10 in Rome, Georgia.
