Cross Country Competes at 30th Annual Gettysburg Invitational

GETTYSBURG, Pa. — The Southern Virginia cross country teams competed in the 30th Annual Gettysburg Invitational Saturday afternoon, with the men's team placing 10th place and the women's team finishing 19th.

The men's team competed in a field consisting of 28 teams, totaling 276 racers for the 8K. Junior Michael Myers led the way with a 20th overall finish and a time of 26:47.2, a 27 second improvement from last year. Following Myers, was sophomore Colter May eight seconds later at 26:55.9, placing 22nd.

Kevin Shelly (62nd), Hunter Lund (93rd), and Brendan Scott (134th) completed the top-five.

The size of the women's race was slightly larger than the men's field, with 30 total teams and 318 total runners in this 6K course. The first runner in for the Knights was freshman Jill Westman finishing 69th overall with a time of 25:11.2, followed by freshman duo Jessica Simpson (75th) and Elora Smith (106th). Kate Huber and Amy Simpson wrap up the top-five finishers for the Knights.

The Knights will compete next at the CAC Championships. This will be the first occurrence in school history hosting the cross country championships. The meet is slated for Saturday, Oct. 27.
