Men's & Women's Cross Country Announce Fall 2018 Schedule

By Nick Porter

BUENA VISTA, Va. – Southern Virginia University head cross country coach Clint May today announced the 2018 schedule for both the men's and women's teams.

"I am excited about this season and the teams we have competing," Coach May commented. "We are returning a strong number of our men's team and will have a lot of new faces on the women's side, but I have no doubt the team will bond and be successful this year."

The Knights open the season on Aug. 31 at the University of Mary Washington. After a pair of races in Virginia in September, the teams will head to back-to-back meets in Pennsylvania.

"A highlight meet for the season will be the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University," May said. The race will feature over 50 teams with a number of seeded races. The seedings will be based on competitive finishes through the first half of the season.

After the invitational at Gettysburg College on Oct. 13, Southern Virginia will host the Capital Athletic Conference Championships for the first time in program history.

"We look forward to hosting the conference championship this year," May commented. "It is a great opportunity for our team to compete with the support of our campus community."

The championship races will be on Oct. 27 at Vista Links golf course in Buena Vista. NCAA Regional Championships will take place in Rome, Georgia.

Last season both the men and women placed fifth at the conference championships and look to improve those marks.

For most meets, the men's distance will be an 8K with the women running a 6K.
