BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference recently released the 2017 preseason coaches' poll, slating the Southern Virginia University men's cross country team with a sixth-place finish.

The Knights placed sixth in the CAC at the end of the 2016 season, improving from the previous season's results by three positions. Second-year head coach Clint May is looking to build upon last season's success even further.

"Our men's team is strong in both numbers and in leadership," May commented. "I'm looking forward to the team's potential."

Returning to the team this year are Grey Meyer, Travis Chisholm, Brandon Shelley and Kelly Shelley. Sophomore Mike Myers, who is returning this season after an LDS mission, and freshman Colter May are expected to lead the pack for the Knights.

"I see Mike Myers and Colter May finishing in the top 25 in the CAC this year," said Coach May. "As a team, our main goal is to finish in the top half at the Championship meet."

The team will start the season on Friday, Sept. 1as they head to Fredericksburg, Va. for the Mary Washington Triangular.
