BUENA VISTA, Va.—Southern Virginia cross country runner Patrick Gonzalez was selected as the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week after finishing fourth overall out of 67 runners Saturday morning at the Washington & Lee Invitational in Lexington, Va.
"We are thrilled for Patrick to receive this honor," said Southern Virginia cross country head coach Logan Davis. "It's been fun to see his role as a leader for the team and directing our strategy on the course. The award is deserved for his contributions to our program."
Gonzalez, a junior, crossed the finish line in 28:58.20 and was the top CAC runner at the meet. He led the Knights to fourth place out of seven teams with 116 points.
He was also honored as the USCAA Runner of the Week for his performance at the meet.
On the women's side, senior Kera Macfarlane-Neilson was mentioned on the CAC women's cross country honor roll for her performance at the W&L Invitational. The Yorktown, Va. native placed 11th out of 59 runners in 22:27.80 to lead the Knights to a fifth-place finish.
