Knights Finish Sixth At USCAA National Meet

CONCORD, N.H. - A rainy and cold day did not prevent the Southern Virginia University men's cross country team from having solid individual performances, and an overall sixth place finish at the USCAA National Invitational Meet. B.J. Awerkamp finished first for the Knights, as he made a 26:43 time over the 8k course count for an 12th place finish out of 122-runners.

Jordan Reid, Jesse Houchens and Kevin Prince then came in for the Knights in the 33rd, 35th and 36th spots to help give SVU 168-points on the day. Spalding University, Dine College, Paul Smith's College, Penn College, and SUNY- College of Environmental Science and Forestry came in front of the men. SVU came in front of New Hampshire Tech, Florida College, Washington Adventist, Penn State- Worthington Scranton, Unity College, Navajo Tech College, Lindenwood University- Belleville, and Nashua Community College.

Chris Werner came next for the Knights, and was followed by Tyson Babbel. Casey Mundell was the last finisher for SVU, and helped them to the score that led them to the sixth spot in the meet.

The night previous to the meet, both Houchens and Prince were named to the USCAA National All-Academic Team. The award goes to student-athletes who are sophomores or older, and have a 3.5 GPA or higher.
