VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. The Southern Virginia Cross Country team opened the season on the road at the Marlin Invitational, and ran strong times against the host Virginia Wesleyan, but finished second, VWC 19- SVU 36. BJ Awerkamp, was the highest scoring runner for the Knights, as he finished fourth with a time of 28.45. The sixth and seventh place runners were for the Knights, as Jesse Houchens and Jordan Reid finished within 40-seconds of each other.
SVU rounded out the top-ten with Kevin Prince finishing at 32.53. The Knights competed well against the hosts ovcer the 7802 meter course, and were able to start out the season on a strong note against the Marlins.
The Knights return to action Sep. 11 when they head to Lexington, VA to take part in the Generals Invitational, hosted by Washington and Lee.
