RICHMOND, Va. Powered by five top-ten finishes, the Southern Virginia Men's Cross Country Team won the VSU Last Chance run. Paced by a third place finish by BJ Awerkamp, the Knights gained a point total of 32 points, 14 points better than the second place team.
Awerkamp was followed by Kevin Prince in 5th, Jesse Houchens at 7,
Tyler Brown at 8th, Jason Fullmer in 9th and Peter Rose rounding
out the top ten for the race. The runners finishing from spot seven
to ten meant that SVU placed all of its runners in the top-ten for
the afternoon.
"You cannot argue with our consistency," said Head Coach Leslie
McKinney. "Having all of the guys finish in such a tight group, and
finish so high, is a great sign of a team coming together. I'm very
happy with the performance today. We wanted to simply run well.
Winning the meet is a bonus that we'll gladly take."
23 runners took place in the 8k run hosted by Virginia State
University. The Knights will next look to compete Oct. 17 when they
travel to run in the Guilford Quaker Invitational.
