CONCORD, N.H. Top-20 finishes by Kevin Prince and Jason Fullmer paced the Southern Virginia Men's Cross Country team to a 4th place finish at the USCAA National Invitational. BJ Awerkamp added to the top-20 finishers as the Knights were able to have a strong finish against top notch competition. Dine College, a perennial power at the USCAA level, finished first.
"Looking at who we ran against, a fourth place finish is a very good accomplishment," said Head Coach Leslie McKinney. "Our guys felt like they had run some of their best races for the season. I'm really pleased at how we competed. Our grouping was good with those top-20 finishes."
Prince ran the 8k course in 29:09 with Fullmer fifteen seconds behind. Awerkamp was able to finish with a time of 29:26, two seconds behind Fullmer. Tyler Brown was the next Knight runner to finish. Peter Rose added another solid finish, with Marlon Sheffield not far behind. Jesse Houchens finished in good time to add to the SVU representation. Jordan Kofford came in next for SVU, with Chris Rogers rounding out the finishers for SVU.
"The guys felt that they performed really well," said McKinney. "I'd have to agree with them. You always want to finish first, but you also want to feel like you ran the best you could. All of our guys felt that way, and it' a testament to their hard work that we were able to get this team finish. It has been a good year for us, and I'm already looking forward to next year and having this group improve."
