Knights Run at Generals Invitational

LEXINGTON Va. -  The Southern Virginia men's and women's cross country teams competed on Saturday at Washington and Lee University.  In a field of eight teams, the men finished in fourth place and the women placed fifth.

The men's team scored 107 team points in there first meet of the year.  They were paced by BJ Awerkamp (Santa Clara, Calif./Snow Canyon) with a time of 31:08 while Kevin Prince (Qatar/American School of Doha) was the next runner for S the Knights with a time of 31:22.  Rounding out the top three for Southern Virginia with a time of 31:40 was Tyler Brown (Denver. Colo./Pomona).

The Southern Virginia Women were also participating in their first meet of the season and scored 142 points.  Leila Schultz  (Honeoye, N.Y./Honeoye Central) led the Knights finishing in a time of 23:42.  The next two runners to score points for the Knights were Mary Massey (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) in a time of 24:35 and Amy Steflik (Elko, Nev./Elko) with a time of 24:54.

Both teams will be return to action at Roanoke College on September 26th in the Roanoke Invitational.
