HOBOKEN, N.J. — The No. 5 Southern Virginia University men's volleyball team will face Wells College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Tournament on Friday, April 19 at 6:00 p.m. in the Canavan Arena.
The Knights earned their way to the University's first-ever NCAA appearance after receiving an automatic bid defeating Juniata College in the Continental Volleyball Conference Championship 3-2.
Southern Virginia capped off a record season posting a 23-3 record, the most games won in program history.
The Knights head into Friday night led by CVC First Team and CVC Tournament MVP Nahuel Recabarren who hammered a program record 33 kills last Saturday in the CVC Championship. He finished the regular seasons second in the CVC in kills per set (4.27) and third in kills (337).
CVC Libero of the Year and CVC Second Team member Danny Aina will help sure up the Knights on back row while CVC First Teamer Paul Clark and CVC Second Teamer Colby Wilson will produce in the middle and on the outside of the floor.
CVC Third Team member Kaipo Tagaloa led the CVC in assists per set at an impressive 9.92 clip.
Wells College finished the season 27-8 going 7-3 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) to claim their first NEAC title over top-seeded No. 10 Lancaster Bible in five sets.
Players to watch for the Express are NEAC First Team members, Caden O'Loughlin and Robert Patzer. O'Loughlin leads the team in kills per set (3.87), kills (480), digs per set (2.14) and digs (265) while also leading the NEAC in kills and digs.
Patzer is second on the team in each category, finishing in the NEAC third in kills, fourth in kills per set and fifth in digs while setter Josh Undari earned NEAC Second Team honors after finishing third in the conference at 9.75 assists per set clip.
