Buena Vista, Va.—The Southern Virginia University men's volleyball team earned their 10th and 11th straight wins of the season, defeating Cairn University 3-0 and Liberty University 3-2.
The Knights (14-1, 8-0 CVC) made quick work of Cairn (3-11, 1-5 CVC) in their early afternoon game, defeating them in straight sets 25-10, 25-14 and 25-14.
Southern Virginia had their best game in the first set as they had 11 kills and 0 errors on a .733 hitting percentage.
Cougar Clark led the way for the Knights as he had a game-high 10 kills on a .692 hitting percentage. Kaipo Tagaloa also played a major role in the Knights success with 25 assists and four digs.
Later in the evening, Southern Virginia took on the Flames of Liberty University defeating them in an exciting five-set thriller.
The Knights dominated in the opening game of play, defeating the flames 25-15. Southern Virginia picked up right where they left off in the second, taking a 2-0 set lead 25-20.
Liberty found their groove in the third and fourth sets, tying up the match at two games apiece, downing the Knights 25-22 and 25-17.
In the fifth, Southern Virginia wouldn't be denied the win as they took down the Flames 15-10 on the way to their eleventh straight victory.
Nahuel Recabarren, Cougar Clark and Mark Stapley all came up big for the Knights with double-digit kills, Recabarren with a game-high 17, and Clark and Stapley with 16 and 13 respectively. Danny Aina also had a big game for Southern Virginia with a season-high 18 digs and Kaipo Tagaloa added 44 assists for the Knights.
Southern Virginia returns to action as they are scheduled to matchup with Wittenberg University on the 5th of March at 7 p.m. in the Knight arena.
