BUENA VISTA, Va. — After making history with Southern Virginia University's first NCAA national ranking, the men's volleyball program earned Continental Volleyball Conference accolades with freshman Nahuel Recabarren named Rookie of the Year and Paul Clark and Daniel Aina named to the All-CVC first and second teams, respectively.
Nahuel "Lobo" Recabbarren (San Juan, Argentina) was named Rookie of the Year after averaging 3.19 kills per set and finishing in the top 10 of the conference in kills, kills per set, solo blocks, points, and points per set. The outside hitter recorded a season-high 22 kills against division opponent Eastern Mennonite and totaled four blocks in three contests.
Once conference play hit, Lobo increased his hitting percentage from .198 to .208 and kills per set from 3.19 to 3.51.
Paul "Cougar" Clark (Centerville, Ohio) was named to the All-CVC first team after leading the Knights in kills and kills per set while finishing second on the team in digs, digs per set, and service aces per set.
Clark recorded three games with over 20 kills, including a season-high of 21 kills against Liberty University. He also landed four service aces in the first matchup against the Flames.
All-CVC second team member Daniel Aina led the Knights with 268 digs as the libero, averaging a second-best mark in the conference of 3.09 digs per set. Aina played in every match for the Knights and notched a season and career-high 22 digs against Lancaster Bible.
The Knights began the men's volleyball in the 2016-17 season, and this year marks the first as members of the CVC.
