BUENA VISTA, Va. – The No. 11 Southern Virginia men's volleyball team avoided an upset on Tuesday evening, holding off Liberty University 3-2 in a close match in the Knight Sports Arena.
After losing the first set 25-21, the Knights (13-6) came back from down 18-13 in the second set, winning 25-23. The Flames won the third set to take a 2-1 lead, and came within one point of winning the match in the fourth frame before the Knights pulled out a 26-24 victory. Southern Virginia took the fifth set comfortably for the win.
Paul Clark led the way for the Knights, finishing the match with 21 kills on a .311 kill percentage. Colby Wilson tallied nine kills, while Mark Stapley and Nahuel Recabarren tacked on seven apiece. Daniel Aina had a game-high 14 digs, and Mitch Usevitch assisted on eight blocks.
Southern Virginia returns to action on Friday as they look to beat Virginia Tech for the second time this year. The match starts at 6:00 p.m. in Blacksburg, Va.
