Knights Win Two Out of Three in Weekend Road Trip

Knights Win Two Out of Three in Weekend Road Trip

By Paul Monson

The No. 8 Southern Virginia University Men's Volleyball team defeated Cairn 3-1 on Friday evening in Langhorne, Pennsylvania in the first game of their road trip. From there they traveled on to Mahwah, New Jersey where they matched up against Ramapo and No. 7 Dominican (IL). SVU split those games as they defeated Ramapo 3-0 before falling to No. 7 Dominican (IL) 3-0 to close out the weekend.

The Knights (12-6, 6-3 CVC) came out a bit sluggish as they dropped the first game to Cairn (5-10, 1-8 CVC) 23-25. It was all Knights from there however as they won the next three games in a dominating fashion.

Paul Clark led the Knights in both kills and digs with 11 kills and 14 digs. Setter Kaipo Tagaloa also had an impressive game, dishing out 37 assists.

In their second game of action, the Knights didn't waste any time getting to work as they swept conference foe Ramapo (4-11, 2-5 CVC) 3 games to 0. The Knights took the first game of action 25-23. They then came out and took it to their opponent 25-17 in the second game before closing out the third and final game 25-21 to seal the win.

Nahuel Recabarren led the Knights attack with 14 kills. Paul Clark and Colby Wilson also came up big for the Knights with 10 kills apiece. Colby Wilson was Mr. Reliable for the Knights (as he usually is) finishing the game with an impressive .643 kill percentage.

Unfortunately for SVU, they weren't quite able to finish up the perfect weekend as they fell to No. 7 Dominican (IL) (11-3) 3-0 to finish up the weekend. The Knights and Chargers battled point for point all the way until the end of the first game before the Chargers barely edged the Knights 32-30. While both games were close, Dominican (IL) managed to keep a small lead throughout the second and third games finishing off the Knights 25-22 and 25-20.

Paul Clark and Nahuel Recabarren led the Knights with 11 kills apiece. Kaipo Tagaloa added 36 assists for SVU along with 11 digs. Libero Daniel Aina also had 13 digs for the Knights.

SVU will return to action this coming Tuesday the 6th of March as they face off against Liberty. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Knight Sports Arena.
