BUENA VISTA, Va. – The eighth-ranked Southern Virginia men's volleyball team took the floor on Wednesday evening, handing the Liberty University men's volleyball club team a 3-1 loss.
The Knights (9-4, 4-2 CVC) dominated the first set from the beginning rattling off eight straight points to start the match and winning the opening frame 25-12. The Flames picked up the intensity in the second set, leading most of the way until a last-minute Knight rally put the squad up 2-0, winning the second set 25-23.
The Flames pulled within 2-1 after winning the third set 25-19, but the Knights sealed the deal in the fourth frame, winning 25-18.
An impressive kill percentage of .347 paced Southern Virginia to the victory, led by outside hitter Paul Clark who tallied 10 kills to go along with four service aces. Jahren Makanoa, Colby Wilson, and Nahuel Aguero each finished the match with five kills, while setters Kaipo Tagaloa and Braden Liu dished out 20 assists apiece.
The Knights look to continue their five-game winning streak tomorrow as they take on Virginia Tech's club team. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Knight Sports Arena.
