Five Knights Earn USTFCCCA Indoor All-Region Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. — The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Mar. 9 the All-Region honorees for the 2020 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field season with five Southern Virginia University athletes receiving the honors.

Mesi Havea was the lone All-Region honoree from the women's team. Havea earns the award for her first indoor All-Region selection following receiving the honor in outdoor last season. The junior collects the honor in the weight throw after a memorable season, setting a program record in the weight throw at the NYC DIII Invitational with a mark of 16.27m and then winning the event at the CAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Murray Bingham led the men's team throughout the indoor season, setting multiple program records and becoming the program's first athlete to qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. Bingham receives recognition in the 800m, mile, and distance medley relay. He set records in each event running the 800m in 1:53.62, and the mile in 4:21.76. Bingham won the 800m at the CAC Indoor Track & Field Championships with a time of 1:53.9, a new CAC meet record.

The men's distance medley team also receives the honor after winning the CAC Indoor Track & Field Championships in a time of 10:32.13 breaking the program record by 15 seconds. The relay consisted of Bingham, Caden Eskelsen, Daniel de la Crus, and Joseph Morphonios, each named All-Region.

A total of 1595 athletes from 200 different institutions earned All-Region honors nationwide, with 805 awards going to the men and an additional 790 to the women. To earn All-Region honors, an athlete must be one of the top-5 individuals in their event in their respective region on the TFRRS Descending Order List. Also, each member of a region's top-3 relay team was selected for the distinction.
