NEW ORLEANS, La. — The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Sunday the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor All-Region honorees that included Derek Blasko, Daniel de la Cruz on the men's team and Baylee Mulitalo and Mesi Havea on the women's.
A total of 1915 honors were handed out to athletes from USTFCCCA member institutions, which included a near-even split between men's (951) and women's programs (964). To be named to the All-Region Team, an athlete must finish top-five in the region in their respective event.
The Knights continue their record-breaking season with the first in program's history an individual(s) have earned All-Region Outdoor honors.
Blasko collects two All-Region honors after his strong performances in both the shot put and the javelin. Blasko's best mark of the season came in the shot put winning the event at the Capital Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships with a throw of 15.46m. He finished the season with a season's best 54.86m at the Jim Taylor Invite in the javelin.
De la Cruz earns All-Region honors after a breakout season in the 400m hurdles. He set a school record in the event at the CAC Outdoor Championships running a time of 53.87 finishing second overall.
On the women's team, Mulitalo received All-Region honors in both the shot put and discus. She won the shot put at the CAC Outdoor Championships with a mark of 13.16m for a new program record. She continued her dominance finishing the season with a personal best 43.01m in the discus at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational, winning the event.
Havea collects her first All-Region honors after a strong season in the discus. She finished third at the CAC Outdoor Championships in the event with a throw of 38.07m and a career-best throw at the Jim Taylor Invite with a mark of 42.23m finishing third overall.
